Following is a list of State Wildlife Agencies you can call to see which animals are legal in your state. This page is intended to simply help you get started on your research. It is by no means comprehensive!! You also need to get in contact with your state's Fish and Wildlife Division as well as your county zoning.If you find some websites confusing, or you cannot find what you are looking for....get on the phone, do not simply take it for granted that these sites are up to date. You will note that there may be two telephone numbers listed for some states because the information was obtained from multiple sources. Also, please note that many area codes have changed and we may not have the most current ones. Please let us know if you find some numbers are different.
Some states have lists of animals that are acceptable while other states have lists of animals that are non-acceptable. Laws change frequently so please do your research in advance to see what you can have before you start shopping for something that you aren't allowed to have! Remember that ignorance on your part can get your new baby taken away from you. It is your responsibility to know the law.
