and Other Things You Need to Know
When Purchasing Exotic Animals
Owning an exotic pet can be one of the most thrilling and rewarding experiences you can have. At Julie's Jungle we raise a variety of exotic pets to meet most everyone's needs and abilities. However, the responsibilities of exotic pet ownership should be considered carefully before you purchase, and not after.
Before you Buy, Do Your Homework
To help you find the right exotic pet for you, we have provided detailed care sheets to help you research each species we offer, determine the one that is compatible with your lifestyle, and care for it responsibly. Click on each animal's link to read a bit about each animal and it's basic requirements for care and housing.
My most ignored question, and my most important question is "how do you intend to care for your baby?" Please take some time to answer this question as well as you can....not only "it will have this size cage" but food, time spent, and anything else that let's me know you'll make an excellent parent for one of my exotics.
About Us
Julie's Jungle is a 22-acre private breeding facility located outside of Pensacola, Florida, and home to over 100 exotic animals representing 19 different species. We have been raising animals full-time since 1996, and consider what we do a lifestyle more than a job. We love what we do, and are fully committed to providing you with healthy and happy life-enriching pets.
Julie's Jungle is a USDA and Florida state licensed "breeding" facility, and our animals are breeding animals, so we cannot allow the general public to visit our farm. Not only do strangers stress our animals, but we are also not licensed as exhibitors to the general public. If you are serious about purchasing one of our animals and would like to see your baby or pick it up, please see our specific sections on Visitation and Pickup.
Laws, Licenses and Permits
People often ask what licenses and permits are required to keep exotic animals as personal pets. The answer to this varies depending on your situation, your state, the animals you want to keep, and other mitigating factors.
California and other states may require certain permits; Certain states and localities have VERY restrictive laws governing private ownership of certain animals. BEFORE you contact us, you must check this out first to see if the animal you want is even legal for you to keep. You need to be very thorough in your investigation and cover your state, county, municipal, and local zoning regulations. If you were to violate any of these regulations, you could possibly have your animal confiscated from you.
If you do not have a copy of the proper permit or the information you need, please do NOT e-mail us for further information until you have it. We cannot and will not give you prices and availability until you have it. We empathize with you totally, but the law is the law. Please use the list of State Wildlife Agencies' websites and phone numbers to research applicable laws, permits and regulations BEFORE you contact us.
Price Quotes
If you have done your research and are considering adopting one of our precious wonders, please contact us for prices and more information. In order to receive a price quote, please include:
- your name,
- your telephone number,
- the state you live in,

- the species of animal(s) you are interested in,
- and how you plan to house and care for your new pet.
Please feel free to include whatever questions you may have about raising and caring for these cuddly babies.
Note: All requested information MUST be provided for price quotes, or we will not be able to respond. E-mails only requesting specific prices will NOT be answered.
Visitation
At Julie's Jungle, we realize that you may be making a sizable investment in our animals, and we encourage you to come to pick up your new baby, see our facility, and meet your baby's parents.
However, in order to breed exotics successfully and to minimize disturbances to our breeding animals, Julie's Jungle is strictly a private breeding facility, and NOT a petting zoo open to visitation by the general public. As such, we must limit our visitors to serious clients only. To insure this, we require a deposit on an animal before you may visit.
Deposits
We accept deposits on some babies on waiting lists prior to birth. Deposits can also hold babies already born until they are ready to go to their new home.
We require 25% of the purchase price of the baby that is a non-refundable deposit. Refunds will only be issued in the event that we cannot provide you with the baby requested within the time specified.
For example, in the spring we have many wallaby joeys that we know are going to be available but do not yet know what sex they are. You can put a deposit down for a female, and if we do not have a female joey by a certain date, then you have the option of either choosing a male wallaby joey or a refund.
If your state regulations prohibit you from having the animal you put the deposit on, or if you simply change your mind, or if there is any other reason that you cannot purchase your baby, your deposit is forfeited.
Shipping
All shipping by us is done through Delta Dash. Shipping charges are approximately an additional $200, which includes health certificate, kennel and airline costs. This cost is the same to ship almost anywhere in the U.S. Here is more Pet Travel Information with Delta Pet First Service.
It's a good idea to get in touch with your airport's Delta Cargo office the day of shipping. You can inform them that an exotic baby animal will be arriving. Ask about the location of the office, and where you will be picking up the baby. Sometimes pick-up is at a pick-up counter, and sometimes it is at their cargo office.
Delta Cargo is where you can see what flights are available. While your schedule may not allow, we do recommend shipping during the week, as there is not as much passenger traffic on flights. Early morning is usually the best time to ship since temperatures are often more temperate, as high temperatures prohibit safe shipping from occuring.
When we ship an animal to you, you will receive an Airbill number along with the flight numbers and times. The airbill number is the only way you will be able to track your baby, so be sure to keep this number in a safe place. If necessary, you can also call Delta's Cargo Tracker at 800-DL-CARGO (800-352-2746). While we realize that some airports can be a little far away, we sincerely request that you give us a call as soon as you can to let us know your animal arrived safely and you and your new addition are doing well.
Guarantee
Julie's Jungle guarantees all of our animals to be healthy at the time of shipment or pick-up. This guarantee is backed by a veterinarian's health certificate. Sometimes it can take several days for a problem to show up and because of this, we guarantee our animals for a limited time, but there are several guidelines that you must abide by in order for this guarantee to be valid.
Timely communication is most important. You must contact us as soon as you feel that something could be wrong. You must describe what's happening in as great of detail as possible. This is either preceded or followed by a visit to your vet. You may be asked to produce evidence of what has happened to your animal. If your animal has been shipped to you and you feel that an injury could have occurred during shipment, be sure to note it on the air bill as well as speak with a representative of the airline. I cannot express enough, how important good communication and responsible actions are should problems arise.
If such problems arise and all requirements are met, then we will either replace your animal or refund your money for a limited time (to be negotiated at time of purchase as applicable to the animal being purchased).
It is your responsibility as the buyer to take care of your animal the moment you receive it. We will not replace or refund any animal that has not received adequate and appropriate care from its new owner. Because we cannot determine how you are caring for your animal, good communication and verification by a vet is essential.
Limited Warranty
It is your responsibility as the buyer to take care of your animal the moment you receive it. Julie's Jungle warrants the animal you purchased is and will be healthy when it is delivered to you by shipment or otherwise.
This warranty will be based upon a veterinarian's health certificate; or shipper's health certificate which you will receive on delivery of the animal purchased by you. "Healthy" is defined by what is legally required for interstate transport by USDA/APHIS and what is defined as "apparent health" on either shipper's certificate or veterinarian's health certificate.
This warranty is effective only in the event that you take the following action within the time indicated as follows:
a) Within five (5) days of delivery of the animal purchased by you, you will cause the animal to be examined by a licensed veterinarian to determine the state of its health and, if that examination indicates that the animal is not "healthy" nor in "apparent health" as defined herein, you must provide to Julie's Jungle a copy of your veterinarian's written opinion or your detailed written statement of the health related problem(s) diagnosed by your veterinarian should your veterinarian's fail to provide you with a written opinion or a written opinion is unavailable.
b) Your failure to notify Julie's Jungle and provide the required information within the time required in subparagraph (a) will render this limited warranty null and void and of no legal effect.
c) Your written notification may be sent by e-mail or any other means of written communication but must in all circumstances be in writing.
If a determination is made that the animal purchased from Julie's Jungle is determined by your veterinarian to be unhealthy or not in apparent health as defined herein, then Julie's Jungle will either replace your animal or refund your money.
It is your responsibility as the buyer to take care of your animal the moment you receive it. Julie's Jungle will not replace any animal or refund the purchase price of any animal that has not received adequate and appropriate care from you. Since Julie's Jungle cannot determine how your animal is cared for after it's delivery to you, good communication and verification by a veterinarian is essential.
This is the only warranty provided with regard to the purchase by you. Julie's Jungle makes no other warranties either expressed or implied and Julie's Jungle shall not be liable for warranties of consequential damages. Some states may not allow this disclaimer, so this language may not apply to you. In such case, the liability of Julie's Jungle shall be limited to refund of Julie's Jungle purchase price. You may have other rights which vary from state to state. You and Julie's Jungle agree that the animal purchased is not intended as "Consumer Goods" under state or federal warranty laws.
GOVERNING LAW: Any sale(s) will be governed by the laws of the state of Florida. Venue and jurisdiction for all disputes will lie in Escambia County, Florida.
Picking Up Your New Baby
We encourage you to come and pick up your new baby at Julie's Jungle whenever possible. We prefer this option as it allows us to meet you, and gives us the chance to help you in the initial introduction to your exotic baby and the responsibilities it will entail. We can teach you about bottle-feeding and stimulation first-hand rather than over the phone. We can also visit face to face for a bit, and answer any questions you may have about care. You may even meet the parents if you like!
Deposit is required before we can schedule your pick-up, and full payment when you arrive.
We look forward to hearing from you!
